This book is a difficult one for me to review. Not because I don't have anything to say. I really wrote a thirty page critique (what? I'k verbose) of TSPoaTM when I first read it because my church building had begun glomming on to Bill Johnson'south teachings in a big manner, and I idea these new fangled ideas deserved some scrutiny. I didn't requite this book one star because it is poorly written and uninteresting. To the contrary, it's an piece of cake read and anything but same old, same old. All the same, in my opinion, the This book is a hard ane for me to review. Not because I don't accept annihilation to say. I actually wrote a 30 page critique (what? I'grand verbose) of TSPoaTM when I first read information technology because my church had begun glomming on to Nib Johnson's teachings in a large way, and I thought these new fangled ideas deserved some scrutiny. I didn't give this book one star because it is poorly written and uninteresting. To the contrary, it's an easy read and anything but same quondam, same old. Even so, in my opinion, the thing TSPoaTM is supposed to do--interpret the Bible responsibly and accurately--it does very, very badly. I cannot emphasize that enough. Johnson'southward hermeneutic is creative, yes, but ultimately ridiculous, as a little scrap of critical thinking volition behave out.

The first of the book's issues is the misinterpretation of words in the Bible. One of the foundational verses for TSPoaTM, which is referred to again and again, is Romans 12:2: "Do non be conformed to this world, but exist transformed past the renewing of your mind, that you may testify what is that expert and adequate and perfect will of God." From this Johnson develops his theology of "proving" the will of God through signs and wonders. Not all theology is created equal, and I think if more Christians were taught how to weigh a pastor's ideas confronting the Give-and-take of God, there'd exist a lot more than truth being preached and a lot less crazy being practiced. I was told, after voicing my opinion nearly TSPoaTM, that I shouldn't think so hard about information technology and instead merely soak in the goodness. Delight don't do that. Shutting off your brain will get you in a earth of trouble. We accept to love God with our minds equally well as everything else, and a wasted and atrophied listen does not and cannot glorify God. So, according to Bill how does a Christian grow? (How is a Christian sanctified.) According to Bill we "chase after revelation." (Folio 72) He expresses the reason some Christians are not getting personal revelation is because "we don't piece of work for it or hunger afterward information technology"... "faith moves the economy of heaven. It is the currency of sky." (Folio 72)
He tell united states on Page 69 the way to concenter revelation is to obey what we already know to be true. He argues if we don't obey the revelation we already have then God will not continue to give more revelation. Bill said "until he walked in obedience, he wasn't going to get more. {revelation}" (Page 70)

Bill as well argues that revelation sets boundaries and if y'all lack faith your revelation won't operate how it's supposed to.

This reminds me of Moroni ten:4 in the Book of Mormon which says "... if ye ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth unto you." The BoM uses this verse to encourage potential converts to "pray if the BoM is truthful, and when you accept plenty organized religion and obey this text - you will receive revelation that this is true." (Also known equally the burning in the bosom.) Pecker does the same thing every bit the Mormons. Johnson comes out of the closet and presents his libertarian gratuitous-will cards (which he didn't want to testify in his get-go book). The notion of co-laboring and his department on desires are both deeply troubling to me—I don't believe they fit with the biblical business relationship.

Same as with his other books, it misses the Gospel.

Such a dandy volume. My favorite part was the idea of building off of what already is happening and leaving the next generation to do even greater things than we accept seen.

Interesting.

But speaking of chapter v again, I particularly enjoyed the dissection and explanation of Mark 8:xiii-21 comparing the leaven of Herod, the leaven of the Pharisees, and the leaven of Interesting.
While the get-go few chapters may accept started out a scrap irksome for me, which also reminds me how the starting time seven or so pages containing recommendations and marketing kind of seemed like a waste matter, the volume considerably picked up for me in chapter v. Actually, probably even further back partially with chapter 4.
Simply speaking of affiliate 5 again, I especially enjoyed the dissection and caption of Mark 8:thirteen-21 comparing the leaven of Herod, the leaven of the Pharisees, and the leaven of the Kingdom. Currently, I would agree with Johnson's theology and his interpretation. At this point I don't know if the same authors, excluding Piper, are cessationists or not. I don't put much in the reviewer's claims. I practice know that Hank Hanegraaf'due south favorite pastime is watch-dogging ministries, to criticizing them. I call his type "negative naysayers". They build their egos by destructiveness. I tried to detect a particular Amazon review of Bill Johnson'south book, in which the writer claimed Johnson has mistranslated scriptures, just it seems to miraculously take disappeared...

I won't attempt to cover the information in each chapter. There were many heady stories of the miraculous inside Johnson's church. I accept no reason to believe Johnson is lying. Were he, surely, his detractors would rise and crush him.

I will say that Chapter 10, titled "Dreaming with God", was the most pivotal for myself, too as being the nigh revealing chapter. We are servants and friends of God, who co-labor with God. Author and pastor Bill Johnson has a strong heritage in the Christian life that powers his desire to encourage others to recollect outside the box and tap into the ability of the Holy Spirit. Author and pastor Beak Johnson has a strong heritage in the Christian life that powers his desire to encourage others to think outside the box and tap into the ability of the Holy Spirit. His book, The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind, addresses the promises God has made to His people and the abilities we as Christian have to perform miracles if only we volition trust in those very promises.

He urges us to embrace a new normal in our churches where miracles become a role of everyday life rather than the exception. He challenges us to lay merits to the words we pray in The Lord's Prayer: that God's volition be done "on earth equally it is in Heaven."

The book cites several examples of miraculous healings, not only of the body, simply of those who have been living with emotional brokenness. Mr. Johnson explains how students at his school of ministry building are trained to watch for signs of need on the streets, non merely in churches. I began this volume wary of what I expected to detect. I had read and heard many troubling things from the Bethel Church scene and I desired to hear the motion's teachings about the Holy Spirit's influence on the heed in a volume written by Bethel's pastor himself. I can't say that I am whatsoever clearer on where I stand on this event - especially in the realm of healing. I tend to autumn on the side of continuationism but struggle with the idea that it is ALWAYS God'south volition to heal - especially as I am confronted in my ain personal experience past the fact that my wife has prayed, and been prayed over, many times over the past 4 years for relief from chronic pain and has non yet been healed. The notion in some charismatic circles that her lack of healing is somehow I can't say that I am any clearer on where I stand on this issue - especially in the realm of healing. I tend to fall on the side of continuationism but struggle with the idea that information technology is ALWAYS God's will to heal - especially equally I am confronted in my own personal feel by the fact that my wife has prayed, and been prayed over, many times over the past 4 years for relief from chronic pain and has not notwithstanding been healed. Nib Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors nether his begetter at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.

While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Motion. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increment".

In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airdrome Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I volition never change the subject area.' And then I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, simply I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"

In February 1996, later 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church building where "everything nosotros do either fuels revival or is fueled past revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church building.

According to a recent volume written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church building where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a Schoolhouse of Supernatural Ministry.

Their Bethel Schoolhouse of Supernatural Ministry building has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively every bit a featured revival conference speaker.
